Frederick Carl DeTroia "Carl" has played guitar for 30 years.  He studied Music at Northern Virginia Community College and at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA, and has performed in various bands throughout  the years. Carl says some of the highlights of his musical career were attending classes taught by Scott Henderson (Chic Corea/Tribal Tech), Mike Stern, and Terry Bozzio-- as well as being able to open up for one of his musical heroes: Mike Keneally (of Frank Zappa/ Steve Vai and Joe Satraini fame).  "Mike even let me play through his amp. So cool, and such a nice guy."  Carl specializes in creative rock and blues guitar, yet is also well versed in most styles of music. Carl has taught scores of students over the past 20 years-- and truly enjoys sharing his passion for music.  When teaching, Carl makes it a priority to focus on each student's individual musical goals and on introducing the fundamentals of music. Carl also loves encouraging students to create their own music by introducing composition and songwriting.  He feels very fortunate to have played with-- and taught-- so many fine people over the past several decades.  Carl taught in Northern VA before moving in 2015 to Lake Monticello-- and is thoroughly enjoying teaching guitar at Angell's.
